Thirty-eight radiators (and the art of stripping down)
38 radiators
You and I in a big construction site
Got a bunch of radiators all over the place
Set them free at the break of dawn
'Til one by one, they will be gone
Back at base, bugs in the software
Flash the message, "Something's out there"
Stacked in the dusty stairs
Thirty-eight iron radiators go by
Thirty-eight dreams I have had
In every one, a radiator
It's all over and I'm standin' pretty
In this dust and rubbles
If I could find a souvenir
Just to prove the world was here
And here is a radiator
I think of yesterday, and let it go
Creation and curation do not begin when the first frame is hung. For us, all begin with demolition.
That meant unmounting thirty-eight massive, ornate cast-iron radiators. Several tons of industrial heritage that once dictated how each room was lived in.
This is subtraction as an aesthetic decision (as well as comfort and energy efficiency). Every radiator removed frees a historic stone wall to clear a sightline.
The walls are finally bare and ready to welcome image and light.
Note: none of those thirty-eight pieces were harmed in the process. They won't end up in a landfill either. They are heading to new homes to warm other heritage restoration projects.
